Aromatherapy and Sugar

Sugar detoxes are becoming more and more popular. It's one of the first things I suggest for people with chronic illness, as it's the quickest way to reduce inflammation and get them starting to feel better whilst we look at addressing nutrient deficiencies. This is also the reason I ask clients with mental health issue to reduce the amount of sugar they are consuming.
The problem is sugar tastes soooo good, and it really can be very addictive. When people try to cut down, they almost immediately begin craving it and can't stop thinking about all the sugary treats they are missing out on!!
Aromatherapy can help, and is frequently useful in managing any kind of addiction. Today, we're talking about sugar though, so here are my top suggestions:
1) Grapefruit oil - Grapefruit is well known as an appetite suppressant, but all citrus oils have a fantastic ability to curb a sweet tooth. Grapefruit and bergamot are my favourites, alongside lime. Stick one or two in a diffuser and leave it running in your home, or wear it in a diffusing necklace at work and smell it regularly, whenever you fancy something sweet or find yourself day dreaming about the vending machine.

2) Peppermint oil - it may be the association with brushing your teeth, but many people find that after inhaling peppermint oil, they no longer fancy that can of soda. Keeping peppermint oil in a personal inhaler is a great way to carry some in your handbag. You can also try doTERRA's peppermint beadlets.
Staying calm/relaxed can also help with sugar detox cravings, so I also recommend blends like Serenity, Peace and Balance to help manage any feelings of anxiety that you may be experiencing.
