Anyone else got coughs and colds still lingering after the winter?

As predicted, this year has been a brutal one for respiratory infections and flu viruses that seem to keep resurrecting themselves a few weeks after you think you've recovered.

I'm a big fan of juices and smoothies to pack a big antioxidant punch when you've got a cold. If you find that you're getting coughs/colds/chest infections regularly, then it's very possible that long term nutrient deficiencies are setting you up for a struggle. Get in contact and I can help you begin to address those.

One of the recipes I love to use when I'm feeling run down is this terrific turmeric smoothie. Turmeric is fantastic when you're feeling run down because it contains strongly anti-inflammatory curcumin.

Curcumin blocks NF-kB, a molecule that travels into the nuclei of cells and turns on genes related to inflammation. In fact, in several studies curcumin has been shown to be a more effective anit-inflammatory than pharmaceutical drugs... without the side effects!

Not only does turmeric dramatically increase the antioxidants capacity in the body, clearing up free radicals, but also boosts the activity of the body's own antioxidant enzymes.

Ingredients:

- one small piece of turmeric (or a pinch of powder if you can't get fresh)

- 1 apple

- 1/2 a cucumber

- 1 pear

- 1 carrot

- 1 tsp coconut oil

- pinch of black pepper

- handful of ice

Juice the turmeric, apple cucumber and carrot. Blitz in the blender with the pear, coconut oil pepper and a handful of ice.

Enjoy!
